Connecticut Architecture Foundation Celebrates the Jane & Kevin Roche Scholarship Fund
By Nancy Clayton, AIA
This year marks the 100th anniversary of renowned architect Kevin Roche’s birth. Eamon, Paud, Anne, Denis, and Alice Roche have launched the Jane and Kevin Roche Scholarship Fund with a major donation to the Connecticut Architecture Foundation in memory of their parents. The Foundation invites you to join us at the Yale School of Architecture on Thursday evening April 28th as we celebrate this significant gift and honor the architectural legacy of Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates.
The evening will start with a lecture presentation in Hastings Hal where Architecture critic Cynthia Davidson, friend of Kevin and Jane Roche, will host a virtual conversation with Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects, based in Dublin, Ireland, Kevin Roche’s birthplace.
Like Kevin Roche a1982 Laureate, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara are the 2020 Laureates of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Farrell and McNamara held the Louis Kahn chair at Yale in 2011 and had the opportunity to meet the Roches. Ms. Davidson will also lead an in-person discussion about the powerful and poetic work of both Kevin Roche and Grafton Architects.
A cocktail reception in the Yale Architecture Gallery will follow the lecture presentation. Tickets and sponsorships for the event can be purchased at the CAF website - ROCHE EVENT. Over the past forty years, the Connecticut Architecture Foundation has awarded close to $600,000 in scholarships to architecture students with a connection to Connecticut. All funds come from donations and bequests from individuals and firms. Contributions can be made directly to the Jane and Kevin Roche Scholarship Fund by clicking this link.
