Roche Modern and Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates win Commercial Green Building Award from the Connecticut Green Building Council.
October 13, 2021
The studio was honored last week to receive the Commercial Green Building Award from the Connecticut Green Building Council for the 250 Massachusetts Avenue (250 Mass Ave) building, part of the firm’s Capitol Crossing project.
Capital Crossing sits atop a newly constructed street level platform over a newly subterranean section of I-395. The interstate was constructed close to fifty years ago, segregating the Capitol Hill and Georgetown neighborhoods to the east from the communities of Judiciary Square and Chinatown to the west. Capitol Crossing stitches the city back together by reintroducing the pedestrian-friendly street grid atop the highway, dotted between with sustainably-designed mixed-use buildings.
250 Mass Ave is the second completed building of five developments within Capitol Crossing’s seven-acre multi-phased master planned development. 250 Mass Ave is a certified LEED Platinum® project in Core and Shell, with a score of 88 points.
An esteemed jury saw clearly the project’s intent, reflected in a selection of comments below.
With the visionary incorporation of sustainable design features like eco chimneys, this project blended urbanism and ecology in a unique way.
At the pedestrian level, to have the experience of engaging with sustainable design in this inviting way adds beauty and biophilic elements to the urban landscape.
Green roofs respond to the heat island effect in its context and offer this nature back to the site.
Elegant planning process and urban integration.
Our office is even more honored by the opportunity to work with this strong group of partners that made the project such a success.
